We encountered this Atlantic ghost crab while walking our dog along the shore of North Carolina's Bird Island. These elusive crustaceans are exceptional at camouflage, with their coloration and nocturnal behavior earning them the "ghost" moniker. During the day, they retreat into burrows that can reach depths of up to 1.3 meters, emerging at night to scavenge and hunt along the shoreline
